Sacrificial Anodes:

We recommend AURAL User to double Sacrificial anodes for deployments more than 6 months when immersed in salt water.

This will help protect stainless components.

It is possible to obtain new anodes via Multi-Electronique (MTE) Inc.

Pressure sensor:

In the USER GUIDE (p. 26), the information about pressure sensor is indicated as followed:

"The pressure sensor is installed at the workshop and filled with silicone gel for its protection. No maintenance is required. The only reason why it should be manipulated or removed is if it should be defective and needs to be replaced."

It should have been:

"The pressure sensor is installed at the workshop and filled with silicone gel for its protection. No maintenance is required on the sensor himself, but you must make sure the pressure port cavity is filled up with silicone gel before each deployment. The only reason why the sensor should be manipulated or removed is if it should be defective and needs to be replaced."

In fact, we must reiterate that before every deployment, you must verify if the pressure
port is perfectly filled up with silicone gel. If there is not enough gel or it appeared to be
contaminated you must refill the cavity. That is to prevent corrosion on the pressure
sensor housing.

 

Test before deployment:

As indicated on page 15 of the USER GUIDE, it is essential to do a premilinary test before long deployment of all new aural. Even if we perform rigourous tests at our facilities, nothing replace field tests.

All submarine instruments that have to be opened and closed by user, should be tested to target deployment before long term deployment.

The easiest way should be using a winch to lower the instrument to the target depth when your expedition is at location. This may take an hour to perform, but it may save your instrument and experiment.
